Tea, rice and fish are the three luxuries of which Longtan people are most proud.
Long Chuen tea, Long Chuen rice and fish raised in the Shihmen Reservoir have always
been the main objects of tourism. We can actually walk into the home of tea to appreciate
the sights of tea fields. We can also enter the zone of fish and take look for nimble
fish in the ponds. In terms of dwellings, some are the homes of frontier guards
from the pre-Ching period and others are the dormitories of operators and workers
of the Shihmen Reservoir. There are also some works of the modern times. Looking
at these buildings across time and space, you will feel the timelessness of the
sky and the earth and be touched and humbled. People’s appearance and attire is
not different from that of people in other areas. The only difference is the modest,
shy smiles that you will see. The simple beauty of the Tehchi oil factory and the
street lined with local delicacies will be your first impressions. The courtyard
of the hundred-year old Longtan Elementary School shows off the magnificence of
a grand estate. It used to be a textile factory. It was the only textile factory
that moved with the Nationalist government when it relocated in Taiwan in 1950.
At the same time as the factory was being transformed into a residential area, the urban concept of the city of Tama in Japan was introduced causing a substantial
transformation.
